Every Little Helps

Tesco bit off more than it could chew and turned itself into a wire-basket case when eight of its executives were suspended (possibly on meat-hooks), as the Serious Fraud Office undertook a criminal investigation into the special accounting recipe used by Tesco’s senior directors, who are now being charged with cooking the books to artificially soufflé balance-sheet profits to a total bake-off of £263 million.

The Institute of Directors have told companies to improve how they are run after a year in which excessive pay for bosses and a string of scandals has once again battered the reputation of corporate Britain. Tesco came bottom of the rankings of FTSE 100 companies. The supermarket chain was brought down by the lowest scores for accounting and audit practices that were largely a hangover from an accounting scandal and a series of profit warnings in the past two years. As they say in the business 'Every Little Helps', but personally I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.
